Tina Treimane has joined NTS Analytica and strengthens our laboratory team as the company moves from research methods to practical analytical services. Her work will support the preparation and analysis of complex environmental and industrial samples and the development of new workflows for non-target screening and high-resolution mass spectrometry. The appointment adds hands-on laboratory capacity as we expand into new matrices, methods and customer projects.

How can we determine what happens to thousands of chemicals during advanced wastewater treatment? The proposed SQUAT project (Sustainable Quaternary Treatment) will evaluate the AUREA® concept, combining biological activated carbon filtration and ozonation. NIRAS invited NTS Analytica to provide the chemical-analysis component. We will combine target, suspect and non-target screening to compare water before and after treatment, identify compounds that persist and detect transformation products that may be formed. The aim is a broader assessment of treatment performance than monitoring a small set of target substances alone. The project has been submitted to the Danish MUDP programme and is awaiting a funding decision.

University of Copenhagen has featured NTS Analytica and the need for broader chemical screening of drinking water. Routine monitoring targets a limited set of known contaminants, while non-target screening can reveal hundreds or thousands of additional chemical signals. NTS Analytica combines high-resolution chemical analysis and data science to create chemical fingerprints, prioritise relevant substances and support decisions on monitoring, source tracking and treatment.
